[LISTEN] VEIL's Debut Album "HIGH VOLTAGE" Continues The Story Of AZAL With Genre-Fluid Bass Exploration

VEIL has launched her much-anticipated debut album, HIGH VOLTAGE, delivering a groundbreaking experience for bass music fans.

This 11-track project merges dubstep, drum & bass, IDM, and leftfield bass with a visual narrative, showcasing VEIL’s ability to innovate both sonically and conceptually. Released through her label, Street Ritual, the album pushes the boundaries of electronic music.

The album introduces listeners to AZAL, a central character navigating a mysterious space called THE HOLLOW. This cross-dimensional zone is a place of infinite timelines and realities, where AZAL hones her power to reshape existence.

Each track on HIGH VOLTAGE represents a different chapter of her journey, blending music and visuals to immerse audiences in this narrative.

Explaining her vision, VEIL shared, “‘HIGH VOLTAGE’ is about embracing creativity without restrictions. I wanted each track to represent a different side of my production style and my love for multi-genre experiences, while staying true to the energy and emotion behind the concept of AZAL’s journey. She is traversing a space where she bends reality, and the album’s sound reflects that feeling.”

Kicking off with “RESPAWN,” the album immediately sets a high-energy tone with heavy undertones of low-end bass. “YU” follows, delivering eerie, deep dubstep that’s both chilling and hypnotic, before transitioning into “FLASHBACK,” where distorted vocals merge with trippy experimental sound design.

The collaboration with HerShe on “MOVE FAST AND BREAK THINGS” feels like a chaotic yet exhilarating journey into a bass-fueled, futuristic dimension. The intensity continues with “BACK BACK,” which dives headfirst into relentless leftfield bass.

“00.00” emerges as a standout, combining digitized vocal samples with grimy drum & bass elements, making for an electrifying listening experience.

A pivotal moment in the album is “5.9,” an interlude that serves as a sonic ode to 5/9's contributions to the project. Layered with fragmented voices echoing “5 9,” the track represents a malware code infecting the system within THE HOLLOW.

“OMEGA,” a collaboration with Digital Vagabond, slows the tempo for a profound exploration of underground soundscapes that blur the lines of reality.

The second half of the LP continues its experimental dive with “EVENT HORIZON,” featuring robotic basslines that exude a mind-altering energy. “ALL OF EVERYTHING FOR FOREVER” takes bold risks, breaking conventional music norms to explore uncharted territories of sound.

The closing track, “OVERLOAD,” grounds the album with heavy dubstep, intricate rhythms, and atmospheric textures, leaving listeners both enthralled and contemplative.

Visual storytelling plays a pivotal role in this album, with 5/9 and Towr Media crafting visuals that mirror the album’s themes. This collaboration enhances the immersive quality of HIGH VOLTAGE, allowing listeners to experience THE HOLLOW both audibly and visually.

The album’s release is a stepping stone for VEIL’s 2025 tour, where she plans to bring HIGH VOLTAGE to life through live performances.

The tour promises an evolving storyline, custom visuals, and cutting-edge soundscapes, kicking off with a release party at Meow Wolf in Denver.
