Slaptop Talks Change And New York Crowds In An iEDM Exclusive Interview

| October 03, 2017

Slaptop knows how to throw one heck of a party.

The DJ made it poppin' bright and early at The Meadows festival which took place in New York City. Music fans from all walks of life absolutely loved every single second of his set.

iEDM caught up with Slaptop after he did his thing on the American Eagle stage. He touched upon his early beginnings and a lucky break that helped launch his career.

"I was making music in my dorm room back in college about three and a half years ago. One day, I got an email from a label that was interested. It was a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend who passed one of my tracks along and I've been doing it full-time ever since," Slaptop told iEDM in an exclusive interview.

When asked about why he loves performing in front of a New York City crowd, he grinned, "I always love playing in New York. The crowd is always super ahead of the curve of what's new and fresh. For electronic music...that's always refreshing. I played pretty early but it's always cool to see the New York fans come out. This is obviously one of the best markets for electronic music."

As the game continues to quickly change in the EDM community, Slaptop knows he has to keep evolving as a player in the industry.

"I think I am getting through the first chapter as my life as an artist and figuring out what's next on my plate in terms of how to go forward, if that makes sense. I think an artist or a person in general, there is always a story. I think I'm ready for what's next. I think that might be a new artist project or a new rebranding of Slaptop. I'm ready for whatever it is," he hinted.

Change for Slaptop also means working with a variety of different artists.

The DJ told iEDM, "I've done a bunch of collaborations, especially in the past year. I think a lot of those are going to come out in the near future. I'm also looking to get back into making stuff just on my own."

In addition to releasing new tracks, Slaptop said that there is potential for him to move in a whole different direction.

"I think, frankly speaking, I'm either going to transition my project toward a more underground house aesthetic or begin a new project in that vein," Slaptop said. He continued, "It probably won't be publicized, but if I do a new project--look out for that. It will be more underground. If I do transition Slaptop in that direction, it will be similar that way as well."

Before parting ways to enjoy the rest of the festival, Slaptop wanted to throw some love to everyone who has supported him on his journey thus far.

"I love you guys. I obviously do it for the fans. That is what keeps us going. Without you, we are just kids in our bedroom making beats. There's nothing wrong with that...but I wouldn't be here today. So thank you guys, we all love you," the talented DJ exclaimed.
