[INTERVIEW] WHIPPED CREAM & No/Me Dive Into Their Melodic House Anthem 'alive'

WHIPPED CREAM, No/Me, alive, interview, melodic house

| August 22, 2025

When WHIPPED CREAM and rising vocalist No/Me met in the studio for the first time, the result was instant magic. Their new single “alive”, out now on Monstercat Instinct captures that energy with soaring melodies, driving percussion, and a message about connection and living in the moment.

In this interview, the pair share how the track came together in one night, the emotions driving its lyrics, and why they hope “alive” leaves listeners feeling free, inspired, and ready to celebrate life. They also open up about creative chemistry, performing the track live, and how this collaboration marks an exciting new chapter for both artists.

Check out our exclusive interview with WHIPPED CREAM and No/Me below.

iEDM: “alive” was written the night you two first met. What was it about that moment that sparked such instant creative chemistry?

WHIPPED CREAM: We originally started another idea before working on “alive,” and I think we both knew and felt that the first idea just wasn’t flowing. Then, when we pivoted and started working on “alive,” it just immediately felt right. It was one of those “if you know you know” moments. We wanted to make an anthem for life and about life, and “alive” is what came of that.

No/Me: Our session started at 6 PM. I normally hate writing in the evenings but WHIPPED CREAM’s warm energy inspired me to give it my all. “alive” poured out so quickly that the whole evening felt kismet.

iEDM: “alive” blends piano with hypnotic vocals and a melodic house drop. How did you balance your two creative styles to arrive at this final sound?

WHIPPED CREAM: Naturally, our sounds work really well together. When I heard No/Me’s raspy goddess voice, I knew I had to get her on this instrumental piano track I had been working on.

I hadn’t created a concept or drop for the rest of the record yet, that actually didn't come until after the session. It was just a very rough demo concept with bass and piano initially. No/Me’s vocals really helped tie the entire song together.

No/Me: There was never a conversation about how to blend our styles; it kind of happened naturally. When WHIPPED CREAM played me her demo, an idea for the topline immediately came to me. When I sang it for her, she was equally excited as I was. When WHIPPED CREAM sent me the finished track, I fell in love with what she did to it!

iEDM: Both of you described “alive” as being about connection and positivity. What message do you hope fans carry with them after hearing it?

WHIPPED CREAM: For me, life is all about the yin and the yang. There is no pleasure without pain, no beautiful mess without ugliness, and no life without death. That’s the beauty of life. It is just the ultimate give-and-take gift, and it is something I feel so lucky to experience.

No/Me:  Language is so powerful – the way we speak, the things we think to ourselves – so if I could help just one person feel stronger, more hopeful, and maybe even give them some motivation to power through their day, I would be ecstatic to know that.

iEDM: The record feels equally at home on a late-night dancefloor or in a personal listening moment. Was versatility something you aimed for while making it? What’s your go-to vibe or setting when listening to “alive”?

WHIPPED CREAM: Versatility was definitely something I was aiming for when creating this record. It is a song that allows for each listener to have their own personal experience and internalize what it means to them, designed to be interpreted individually.

It makes me so happy that you agree that it can be played anywhere. Personally, my favorite place to listen to it is inside my car while driving, looking at the beautiful nature where I live on Vancouver Island, and appreciating the space around me.

No/Me: When we wrote it, I pictured us performing it at Coachella. I have no doubt that it sounds great at shows, but I have been bumping this song in the car before writing sessions to pump myself up.

My dream is to hear it come on in my Pilates classes. It would be so fun to watch it inspire the women (and the occasional men who attend) to crush their workouts.

iEDM: How do you see “alive” fitting into the larger arc of your respective careers as you both expand into new directions?

WHIPPED CREAM: To me, “alive” is timeless. It works for any month in any year at any time. I’m very proud of this record, and I think No/Me is so very talented. I am so lucky to have her on this track.

No/Me: This song was a turning point for my writing. It is the beginning of a string of positivity. I am really grateful to make music for a living, so the least I can do is write songs that will make others happy too.

iEDM: No/Me, your vocals tell a powerful story throughout this track. What emotions were you channeling while writing and recording the lyrics?

No/Me:  We met in the middle of December, which is always a contemplative time for me, as it is just before my birthday and the New Year. I had heard that a prominent Rabbi (Nachman of Breslov) said that songs have the power to uplift and elevate our spirits, so it is important to pay attention to the words that we sing.

I wanted to channel the optimistic energy I felt about the upcoming year into our song. When the mantra “we’re gonna be big, it’s gonna be great” fell out of my mouth along with the melody, I knew we had something special.

iEDM: You’ve become the go-to voice for house anthems with high-profile collaborations like Disco Lines’ “Wide Open” and Noizu & Westend’s “Push To Start.” How have those experiences shaped your approach to “alive”?

No/Me: My co-writer on “Push To Start”, Leor Amar, taught me the importance of writing for the audience, to think about the environment in which the song will be played to try to enhance their experience. “Wide Open” on the other hand, was the first EDM leaning song that I wrote from an honest place.

It showed me that when I write from the heart, the music will connect to other people’s hearts. “alive” is a combination of writing from the heart while also thinking about how it would make others feel. I hope it makes them feel good too!

iEDM: Your vocal tone and songwriting seem to resonate deeply with house and melodic electronic tracks. In your view, what makes your delivery connect so strongly within this space?

No/Me: My boyfriend said that because I write every song that I sing, I know how to put the right feeling into the song. But to be honest, I am not really sure what it is. I just do my best to “get in the zone” and then pray that I’m not the only one who likes what I am doing.

iEDM: WHIPPED CREAM, “collide” showcased your own vocals while exploring a darker techno side. How did the creative process differ between that track and “alive”?

WHIPPED CREAM: With “collide,” I led with my own vocals and leaned into a darker techno energy. “alive” was pretty much the opposite. Piano came first, and it turned into something uplifting and powerful by having No/Me’s vocals on it. Two different starting points, and two completely different emotions.

iEDM: You recently delivered massive sets at Tomorrowland and Shambhala. What stood out most from those experiences, and how do they influence the energy you bring to new music?

WHIPPED CREAM: Thank you! What stood out the most to me was the recognition and positive feedback I received from the unreleased music I played at both festivals. Testing out new music at festivals can be hit or miss, because people are coming to hear the music they already know.

But with those performances, I could definitely tell that these unreleased songs are connecting with people, and that makes me feel really, really good. I don’t make music for the applause. I make it for the energy and the feeling, and I’m utterly obsessed with creating, so to see others actually feel connected to these songs means the world to me (and definitely encourages me to release them one day…).

iEDM: With upcoming shows at Rifflandia, Riverside, and intimate headline dates in Calgary and Vancouver, what can fans expect from your performances this fall?

WHIPPED CREAM: More music, completely produced by me. It is going to be a very special year to come. I’m very excited. Expect all sorts of genres and expect to be a fly on the wall of me just exploring myself as a music producer.

iEDM: Looking ahead, how are you approaching upcoming releases and your evolving sound as you move between house, techno, and other genres?

WHIPPED CREAM: Honestly, I will release whatever feels right to me in the moment. I don’t ever want to be classified under one genre. I have made all sorts of music, and right now, I’m feeling like living under the “house” umbrella.

Next month, it could be something completely different, and that is the beauty of my artist project. It’s all about feeling. Being a music producer is so fun.
