Coachella Replaces Kanye With Swedish House Mafia x The Weeknd As Sunday Headliners

It wouldn't be Coachella if there wasn't drama leading up to the return of one of the largest music celebrations in the country. In true Ye fashion, Kanye West pulled out of his Coachella headlining slot just two weeks before fans were set to hit the deserts of California. Instead, Swedish House Mafia have moved from special guest to headliner with the addition of The Weeknd. Together, the two acts will take the Coachella main stage on Sunday night.

Earlier this year, Kanye sparked further controversy when he requested a public apology from Billie Eilish, who made a comment at a concert regarding Travis Scott's Astroworld disaster. Kanye went on to explain that he would be bringing Scott to his Coachella performance as a special guest, ironic considering Scott was scheduled to headline the event but was replaced in the aftermath of Astroworld. 

Swedish House Mafia are in the midst of a major comeback and hot off the heels of releases with Sting, Ty Dolla $ign, and The Weeknd. Ahead of Coachella, the supergroup comprised of Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso will release of their debut album Paradise Again. The trio will also embark on a headline world tour with stops in Boston, Miami, Las Vegas, Chicago, DC, and more later this year.

Coachella returns to its treasured home in Indio, California after two long years of cancellations and postponements from April 15-17 and April 22-24, hosting over 150 artists each weekend. Swedish House Mafia x The Weeknd will join Harry Styles and Billie Eilish in headlining the 2022 event. Tickets are currently sold-out but fans can still hop on the waitlist.
