10 Favorite Festivals of 2017

| December 14, 2017

As 2017 winds down, we take the time to reminisce this year and make resolutions for next year.

This year's most notable nationwide event was the total solar eclipse because a large percent of the U.S. was lucky enough to watch in awe.

We watched a girl tell an audience on TV to 'Cash Me Ousside' go viral. We all gawked over new episodes from our favorite shows like Rick & Morty and Stranger Things.

In the EDM world, we were blessed with new music from some of our favorite artists like Bassnectar and Illenium.

On the festival spectrum, we saw some events come and go, and we were pleased to see come back even better than the year before.

Here are our 10 favorite festivals of 2017:

1. Electric Forest

Electric Forest has established itself as the premier camping festival, and well deserved.

Getting lost in the Sherwood Forest is the most magical experience for any festival lover. The art installations are all beautiful and have intention behind them.

This year featured two epic weekends of music so that everyone can enjoy the Forest. The lineup featured all the sought after EDM artists like Big Wild and Chris Lake

This year, iEDM got to sit down with members from The String Cheese Incident for an exclusive interview HERE to talk about their role in curating this amazing event.

2. Hulaween

Hulaween is an event that has continued to out do itself each year. This halloween-themed event is dubbed as the Electric Forest of the South, featuring Spirit Lake as the psychedelic immersive experience where the art installations are featured.

Suwanee Music Park's natural Spanish Moss creates the perfect spooky halloween vibe. Everyone came in costume ready for an epic weekend of music from String Cheese, to Bassnectar, to Goldfish

"Hulaween was my favorite because of the overall vibe. There was an endless amount of art, and having a golf cart made festie-life so much easier," said iEDM writer Kylie De La Bruyere

iEDM got to chat with Michal Menert And The Pretty Fantastics about their set at Hulaween HERE

3. Imagine Festival

Imagine Festival is the Atlanta Festival has easily become the most anticipated festivals of the year.

Two years ago, the festival relocated to the Atlanta Motor Speedway and began offering camping. Despite some new location hiccups, they came back in 2017 stronger than ever.

This year featured Deadmau5, Spad Heddy, ill.Gates, to name a few, and a Dirtybird players takeover with artists like Will Clarke and Claude Von Stroke.

"My favorite set of 2017 was Pretty Lights at Imagine Music Festival. The light show was breathtaking," said iEDM writer Kylie De La Bruyere

4. EDC Las Vegas

EDC Las Vegas tops the lists every year because it is truly a playground for ravers. Three days in Vegas mixed with three incredible nights under the electric sky mix for the greatest weekend for any EDM lover.

The lineup is always all of our favorite DJs from across the world, and the stages are more and more breathtaking every year. This year featured Oliver Heldens, Ephwurd and Boombox Cartel, to only name a few.

"I got to see my favorite artists (Illenium's EDC debut and Gareth Emery). The PLUR was real. Walking around the Las Vegas strip and seeing so many ravers everywhere, hearing EDM music from all stores and hotels- it was like a raver paradise," said iEDM writer Lindsey Moriyama

5. Okeechobee

In only its second year, Okeechobee came back with an unforgettable diverse lineup featuring EDM favorites Bassnectar and Pretty Lights, to a once in a lifetime performance from The Roots with Usher.

"My favorite moment was when the crowd belted out the lyrics to Usher singing 'Let It Burn' taking us all back to 2004," said iEDM writer Lacy Bursick.

With three incredible stages, and then a bunch of smaller installation stages outside the main venue, this festival was easy to get immersed in. The art was incredible and the vibes were unlike any other.

8. Oregon Eclipse

This one and done event was exclusive to 2017 because it revolved around the celestial experience of our decade. We at iEDM love space vibes. Oregon Eclipse was a transformational event that featured the eclipse as it's enlightening experience.

The lineup was a variety of all our festival favorites like STS9 and even a super exclusive set from Bassnectar. It was a collaboration of several festivals from across the world, making it a global event that had travelers from everywhere.

Even artists we talked to called it their most anticipated event for 2017, like Desert Dwellers in this exclusive interview HERE.

This 7-day event was held in the path of total darkness for the total eclipse viewing. It was an unforgettable experience for those who were lucky enough to attend.

9. Middlelands

Fifty miles northwest of Houston in a small town called Todd Mission, The Texas Renaissance Festival Grounds hosted an unforgettable festival that unfortunately won't be held there again due to issues with the property afterwards.

The creative minds of EDC and Lollapolooza came together to give everyone a weekend full of unbelievable vibes along a great selection of artists like Troyboi and Dimond Saints

"This mystical oasis full of green grass and green trees was my home for four days and there was always something going on from archery, yoga, crafts and more activities during the day," said iEDM writer Cris Chavez

"One of my favorite things was The Wench’s Bay, an art cart shaped as a boat that would travel different places each night. I ran into this art cart at the camping area after the festival on day one blasting some groovy music from the speakers until sunrise."

10. The Meadows Festival

Taking place in Queens, this NYC festival featured the perfect variety of music from EDM producers like GTA and Bassnectar to hip-hop stars like Future and NAS.

The Gorillaz headlined this special event along with The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jay Z.

"It was the perfect combo of all genres of music," iEDM writer Kyle Stevens said. "It was interesting to observe how the EDM crowd interacted with fans of different bands."
