Festival Squads: When Strangers Become Family

| June 22, 2016

Everyone has their go-to group of friends for festivals, otherwise referred to as "festy besties," "fams," or "squads." The squad has to start somewhere, and often times it’s an unlikely group of people you wouldn’t expect. We all start as strangers, but eventually grow into a family.

It’s no secret that going to festivals is the most fun you’re going to have. Choosing who to go to a festival with can help set the mood for the kind of experience you’re going to have. You want to go with people who have the same vibes as you.

Sometimes you buy your tickets and barely know anyone going. Maybe you know one person, and that’s really all you need. Going to a festival opens up a whole new world to make friends. We all come together for the same purpose, to have as much fun as humanly possible over the short 2-4 days a festival lasts.

After spending 4 days together, you’re bound to come out closer to these people than you ever would have thought. Whether you’re camping, traveled across the country and are staying in a hotel, or it’s a hometown festival, the people you meet and “squad” with will change your life for the better.

It only takes one person to start a group. Sometimes it’s best to step outside your comfort zone and experience the new side of things. If you want to go to a festival and no one wants to go with you, go alone! You’re going to end up invited to join another festival family and make new amazing friends.

People you never expected will end up as your closest friends. When your crammed in a tent together, there’s no escaping your squad, and why would you want to? They become your family. You wander, eat, sleep, party, and explore the magical festival world together.

You’re surviving in the heat, the rain, waiting in the long lines, walking through the crowds; everything you do is together and they become your life line. Even when you’re miserable from the weather or having the best time at your favorite DJ’s set, it's all together. When you’re exhausted and delusional, chances are they feel the same. Your highest and lowest points throughout the festival will be with these people.

When you find the right people that click with you, and you will, you’ll feel an instant comfort in them you wouldn’t normally get. No doubt will cross your mind later when you’re invited to go to another festival across the country with these people you just met. Your festival squad will slowly divide and conquer all the festivals, giving you the choice to pick and choose any and every festival you can imagine without ever worrying you’ll be alone.

The bond you get when you’re joined with people who share the same interests with you is something you won’t find just anywhere. It’s hard to feel alone when you wake up one day and realize you suddenly have friends from cities all over the world.
