Five Ways EDM Will Change Your Life

| March 03, 2017

Disclaimer: There are much more than five ways that EDM can and will change your life. But since no one wants to read a novel here, I will limit myself to the five P’s: the People, the PLURR, the Passion, the Positivity and the Pack.

1. The People

Fact: At a festival, you will meet all sorts of people. People from different states, different countries, different walks of life, different jobs and different backgrounds. The beautiful thing about EDM is that is does not discriminate, it draws together all people regardless of race, gender, sexuality, age (okay, you might have to be 18 for some events, but that’s a legal thing) or capability.

The truly incredible thing is that ordinarily you would never meet some of these people. I’ve made some of my closest friends because of EDM and now I can’t imagine my life without them. The people you will meet and befriend will change your life. I promise.

2. PLURR Lifestyle

Peace. Love. Unity. Respect. Responsibility. A five-letter acronym that has come to mean so much to ravers and festival goers and one that allows us to celebrate our love for EDM in a safe and positive way. When we party with PLURR we make a pact to respect our fellow ravers and keep ourselves and each other safe. You will not always see this kind of pact at nightclubs or bars. PLURR lives outside of festivals as well. PLURR breeds a sense of empathy and once you’ve partied with PLURR, it’s almost impossible not to let that influence how you live your life beyond the festival grounds. I know that once I started applying PLURR and empathy to my life, I became a better person for it. And this was all because of EDM.

3. The Passion

There are very few places on earth that you will find thousands (if not tens of thousands) of people in one place all united by a common passion. People go to EDM events because they truly love the music and the rave community. People demonstrate their passion for EDM in a myriad of ways and EDM is a community of love.

Our festivals and events have become a monument to the tremendous amount of passion that exists in the rave community from organizers to DJs and producers to the ravers themselves. Passion is the cornerstone of the EDM community and we all carry a piece of that passion within ourselves from the moment we step into our first, tenth or hundredth festival.

4. The Positivity

At a rave, the good vibes and positivity is predominant. How many places can you go where you can randomly compliment someone and receive a smile or a piece of kandi in return? How many places can you bestow spontaneous hugs on people you’ve just met?

I live in New York, and here the answer is 0. Unless you’re at a festival. Ravers bring so much positivity and kindness to events because they’re in a place they love, celebrating the music that they love. The best thing is that the positivity is infectious, if you bring good vibes to a crowd, it is likely that it will spread.

5. The Pack

Okay, the word I wanted to use here was family, but in the interest of staying with my five P’s theme, this was the best that I could come up with. Family is a word commonly used in rave talk, there are circles within circles of rave families, but let me explain here. Your primary rave family is the group of people you party with. They truly become your family: they see you during the good and the bad, you trust them more than you trust your non-dominant hand and they will always be there for you.

Rave families can be small and intimate, but they can also expand beyond state lines and country borders. Fandoms create their own families, like Mellogang or Ghost Fam (Marshmello and Ghastly fans respectively). Families are also bigger than individual producers, and can include the entire genre: trance fam anyone? The final and biggest family circle encompasses everyone who loves EDM, because all fans of electronic music are part of the EDM family.
