[INTERVIEW] Cat Dealers Talk 2022 Tour And More Ahead Of Miami Music Week

| March 23, 2022

Brazilian house duo Cat Dealers is one of the most recognizable names in the international electronic scene. Formed by brothers Lugui and Pedrão, Cat Dealers is a party and festival favorite often included on US and international lineups for Lollapalooza, Ultra, and EDC. A dominating force since their inception, Cat Dealers has a proven track record with inclusions on Forbes 30 Under 30 and DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs lists, and a cosign from Armada Music. Continuing to forge ahead with their unique style, Cat Dealers are starting 2022 off right with a massive US headline tour, their debut Cat House Sessions showcase at Miami Music Week, and a brand new single, "Stronger," following their recent hit "Club Addict."

What was the inspiration behind your name, Cat Dealers? How many cats do you own?

Our mother started rescuing homeless cats for adoption but she ended up getting way too excited and thought she was going to save all the cats in the world (haha) Some of those cats she rescued ended up not being adopted and she kept them at our home, so now we own 10 cats!

What is it like working with your sibling?

We’re so used to always being together, at least for us, it's easy! We have a great professional dynamic too and  complete each other when it comes to work. We don't see ourselves working separately because we know the mix works. On the personal side, we've been together playing video games and doing other things since forever, we'll always be very close.

Cat House Sessions is coming to Miami Music Week. What do you have planned for this special showcase?

It’s our first time at Miami Music Week and we are bringing our label party there. It’s crazy! We’re super excited and we have been planning this for months. You can definitely expect a lot of unreleased songs and our classic tracks.

What’s one clothing item or accessory you have to bring on tour?

Our sneakers and a lot of sweatpants.

If you could perform a concert anywhere in the world, at a venue or special location, where would it be?

Our biggest dream is Madison Square Garden! Of course we have a huge list of places we've been lucky enough to check off our list, but a headlining tour with a show in MSG would be amazing.

In the last year, you’ve collaborated with Loud Luxury, Yves V, Bruno Martini, Dubdogz, and more. How has collaborating with a variety of artists changed your sound or influenced your productions?

Every collaboration teaches us a lot, knowing each other more deeply and getting to know how their creative process works and we can also share some of our essence with them. Collaborations are an indispensable process for any artist of any musical genre. By the way, we always made friends in this collab process like what happened with Loud Luxury, we love those guys.

You’ve also done a number of remixes recently for artists like R3HAB, Gryffin, DubVision, and Martin Jensen. What’s your approach to remixing and how does that process differ from your original productions?

In the original track we started from the beginning so we have complete control over any possibility. But, the remix track we got a base song already and that makes it too interesting to give a new look to something that already exists and transform it into something totally different.

If you could remix any song, what song would you choose?

That’s a tough one! There are thousands of tracks we’d love to create our own remix, but maybe it’d be nice to work on something for a huge pop artist such as The Weeknd, who’s got such unique vocals and always delivers such high level productions. It’d be crazy to put our Cat Dealers spin on one of his tracks.

What can fans expect on your upcoming North American tour?

You can expect a show with lots of energy from start to finish! Our main goal is to always deliver a moment of pure energy to the public, we want it to be a unique and joyful moment. We are surprised at each show with the level of enthusiasm of the crowd, singing all of our songs - even the ones in Portuguese - and cheering us up as much as we cheer them up. So you can be sure that a lot of energy is what you will find in our tour.

What do you have in store for 2022?

We saved a lot of energy during the pandemic and the time has come to spend it! We’ve been touring a lot in the US since last year and have an amazing schedule worldwide for 2022, including our Tomorrowland debut, which will also be at the main stage, such a proud moment of our career. There are so many upcoming tracks too that we’re so proud of and lots of new projects that we can’t quite reveal at the moment, but that’ll be super exciting for both us and the fans.
