Moonrise Festival Drops Insane Lineup

| May 27, 2017

Many festivals like to tease their attendees by dropping their lineups in bits and pieces. Other festivals like to stun attendees by dropping the full lineup in one go, for the shock and awe effect. (I'm looking at you EDC). Moonrise preferred to do the former and dropped their lineup in two exciting phases. And wow, what a lineup. Moonrise has always risen to the occasion and curated some of the best lineups of East Coast music festivals, and for 2017 the Maryland festival certainly did not disappoint.

Moonrise will be seeing performances by some of the biggest names in EDM, from Afrojack to Kaskade, Porter Robinson, Madeon and RL Grime. At first glance, the 2017 lineup seems to be a bit more bass and trap heavy with producers like Carnage, Excision, Yellow Claw, Zeds Dead, Flux Pavilion, Slander, and Zomboy. However, artists like Porter, Madeon, Big Gigantic, Markus Schulz and Seven Lions add a good amount of variety to the lineup.

While I am an avid supporter of many of these artists, the selling point for me was seeing Porter Robinson and Madeon on the same lineup. Coachella was the final stop for the dynamic duo's Shelter Tour and was (supposedly) the final time that the two would take the stage together during the Shelter Project. However, Porter and Madeon fans alike will have their fingers crossed for a performance of Shelter.

Moonrise is one of the bigger East Coast music festivals and will take place the weekend of August 12-13 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore Maryland. Unlike other East Coast festivals like Electric Zoo, Bonnaroo and Ultra Miami (I do consider Florida to be east coast), Moonrise is a relative newcomer to the EDM festival circuit, making its first debut in 2014. The festival has since grown in size and prestige, and returnees and newcomers alike wait anxiously for August to roll around.
