The Future of SFX Entertainment

| July 14, 2016

Earlier this past year, SFX entertainment filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company runs several major festivals including Tomorrowland, Electric Zoo, Life in Color, and Voodoo. SFX entertainment is one of the largest companies in the EDM scene so the loss isn’t something that will go unnoticed. To try and stay afloat, they have been progressively auctioning off their assets like Beatport, Flavorus and ID&T.

The bankruptcy allowed them to keep running the festivals, which is why you may or may not have noticed that they were in trouble. With the disaster that was TomorrowWorld 2015 and the notorious third day curse of Electric Zoo, it’s no wonder the company was suffering such a loss. All of the chaos that’s going on behind the scenes could also be the explanation behind the disappearance of Q-Dance stage at this past years Mysteryland in Bethel Woods.

It’s been recently announced that the founder of Q-Dance, Wouter Tavecchio, plans to help bring back SFX from rock bottom. It’s expected as Q-Dance was associated with SFX, that they will team up with ID&T to help bring the struggling company back on top.

Right now it’s mostly speculation and rumors, but now this presents us with a whole slew of new questions. Will TomorrowWorld return to Georgia in years to come? Can we expect to see more hardstyle stages becoming more common at U.S festivals? Only time will tell, but it will be interesting to see how this affects future festivals and EDM events, especially in the U.S.
