The NERVO Sisters Tell Us Their Secret to Success and Why You Need to Party in Latin America in an iEDM Exclusive Interview

| September 12, 2017

Grammy Award winning Australian sister-duo, NERVO, are as busy as can be. While jumping around (literally), and playing over 200 shows per year world wide, Mim and Liv also manage their own record label, GOT ME BABY! Records.

The girls are also residents at Omnia and Wet Republic in Las Vegas, and Ushuaia in Ibiza. Even with their busy schedule, the lovely ladies and I stepped backstage at Sziget Festival in Budapest, Hungary for a quick interview.

iEDM: We're at Sziget Festival 2017 in Budapest. How do you feel?

Mim: Great to be back! We only get to come out here once or twice a year, so it's a real occasion that we get to play here.

Liv: We've been seeing everyone's snaps of what it looks like and the crowd looks INSANE!

Mim: It's incredible walking around and seeing all the lanterns and the lights in the trees.

iEDM: You're all over the globe playing some of the biggest raves and festivals in the world like EDC, Tomorrowland, and Lollapalooza. Where in the world is your favorite place to perform and why?

Mim: That's the million dollar question. Look, we love Latin America.

Liv: Just Latin countries in general.

Mim: Italy, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, Peru, the list goes on.

Liv: Yeah, the people are just crazy. They dance longer, they go out later. They're just more loco.

Mim: Just mental.

Liv: For our kind of job, that just makes it a breeze. The crazier the better.

iEDM: What's it like working with your sister?

Liv: Oh, we love it!

Mim: It's very to the point. We don't muck around with each other.

Liv: And we don't get offended

Mim: Yeah, that's our secret I think. The secret to success. We have each other. Our life looks great, and it is great. But there's obviously a lot of pressures behind that you probably don't see. I think being a solo artist would be really tough.

iEDM: How are things going over at GOT ME BABY! Records?

Liv: YASS!!

Mim: Well, funny you should ask, the guys from GOT ME BABY! are here tonight!

Liv: And we're dropping our first release soon!

Mim: Yeah we had some issues with getting some of the songs signed.

Liv: When you work with other artists you have to work with their release schedule on their label, that kind of stuff. Which is always pretty complicated.

Mim: We can't wait to bring you something!!

iEDM: You have releases on big name labels like Armada Music just to name a few. What's it like working with these artists and labels?

Liv: With every label you learn something new. I think all labels have their different strengths. Mostercat were really easy to work with because they had a really active Sync Department and like video games, things like that. Which is really great.

Mim: But you know, we're still learning. No record label is the same, and no territory is the same. So working with different labels from different territories, it's good for us. We're happy we can work with so many different labels.

Liv: We like the freedom. We were signed to a label before and it was quite restricting actually. We didn't like the way it felt.

Mim: If someone doesn't like a record from us we can go find someone else that does.

iEDM: What are your pre-performance rituals?

Liv: Well, Mim always writes her cheat sheet. Just because of all the different countries that we're in. The list has ways to say things like "Thank you" and "Let me see your hands."

Mim: And it's always pretty hard here in Hungary. Russia is like near impossible. China was easy. We're getting there.

Liv: We're really unprepared right now though because it's festival season and we're playing like every other day.

Mim: Yeah so the set's really our biggest concern.

iEDM: Do you have anything else you'd like to say to your fans?

Liv: We love them!

Mim: We wouldn't be here without them. We hope that they love the music and the concept.

I would like to thank Mim and Liv of NERVO and the kick-ass press team at Sziget Festival for setting up this interview.
