10 Electronic Red Rocks Shows Worth Traveling For
We called it the number one outdoor venue in the U.S., and the beauty of this natural amphitheater that sits in Morrison, Colorado is only half the reason. The other half is the stacked lineup of events that will take place during it’s season from the end of April to early October.
Red Rocks has been home to all the biggest names in live music since 1941. Many touring artists consider playing Red Rocks as one of the biggest moments of their careers.
And as a music fan, seeing your favorite artists at Red Rocks is a bucket list travel goal. Nothing compares to the natural acoustics as the bass and rhythms bounce off the rocks, which are named Ship Rock (South), Creation Rock (North), and Stage Rock (East).
Here are 10 EDM Red Rocks Events Worth Traveling For (in order by date):
1. Dead Rocks IV
Our favorite DJ duo Zeds Dead brings us their 4th edition of Dead Rocks. Find out how they started their label Dead Beats in this iEDM exclusive interview HERE. This year features some of the best bass artists out right now: Ghastly and Rezz. We named Rezz number 1 on our list of “10 Up and Coming Artists You Need To Add To Your Playlist Right Now.” This show takes place on a Monday, the evening before July 4, so start your celebrations off right.
2. Flume
Australian producer Flume has quickly risen to everyone’s favorite artist list. In fact, this year, he even won a Grammy for Best Electronic Album. His unique style and over the top production is worth traveling for. This show has been sold out almost since it went on sale, despite taking place on a Wednesday. But selling out Red Rocks leads to them giving you multiple nights, so let’s cross our fingers for next year.
3. HARD Red Rocks
HARD fans who can’t make it to HARD Summer are in luck because Destructo brings his tour to Red Rocks again this year featuring Dillon Francis, DJ Mustard, Destructo himself, Wax Motif, AC Slater, and Kittens. It will be a full day of some of the best dance music out right now.
4. Pretty Lights Live
We all remember and still love those Pretty Lights tunes from years ago and now we get to hear it from a live band. Pretty Lights Live adds instruments on stage along with the full PL production. If you are a PL fan and have no seen the live band, this two night run is definitely worth making a trip to Colorado for.
5. Emancipator Ensemble with Opiuo Live Band
Emancipator produces some of the most beautiful electronic tunes we’ve ever heard, and he does this by recording live instruments and layering the unique sounds. For Red Rocks, he is bringing a live band, giving us the Emancipator Ensemble. Colorado favorite Opiuo will have a live band as well, giving us a full evening of magical tunes.
6. Griz
One of the hardest working musicians out right now, Griz has been given two nights after his sold out show last year that featured pyrotechnics where he literally lit the stage on fire! This year, he gets Labor Day weekend. Night one features a live band and night two is Griz giving us those saxophone bass drops we love.
7. Mad Decent Block Party
If you’re a Mad Decent lover, this is the event for you. Major Lazer headlines the night along with Cashmere Cat, Alison Wonderland and Slumberjack. Get ready for heavy bass and a long day of non-stop dancing. This event is the Sunday after Griz, so if you’re coming from out of town, you can have a Labor Day weekend full of raves.
8. STS9
This is their 20th Anniversary show, which is a huge accomplishment for any band. They will be hosting a three night run this September. Night one they will play the full Artifacts album to its entirety, and night three will wrap up with an axe the cables acoustic set. If you are a Tribe fan, this is not an event to be missed.
