[EVENT REVIEW] FISHER Brings His Infectious Energy To Radius Chicago

| January 04, 2024

Chicago's premiere venue Radius concluded its 2023 season with a bang, hosting a historic week of productions that included the much-anticipated FISHER show on December 29

The sold-out show at Radius was part of the venue's 6-show lineup across 5 days, featuring other renowned artists like Gorgon City and Purple Disco Machine. Its two-room venue, with a 4,000-person capacity main room, was filled to the brim with enthusiastic fans ready for an unforgettable night.

Hailing from the Gold Coast of Australia, Paul Fisher, best known as “FISHER” was a former professional surfer before he transitioned to the DJ world in 2005. While he is undoubtedly an incredible DJ and producer, his unfiltered personality and boundless energy have also played a huge role in gaining and maintaining his success.

The event spanned an impressive 5.5 hours, featuring openers Inphinity, Arielle Free, and Joshwa before FISHER took the stage. Anticipation and excitement reached new heights during Joshwa’s performance, as the crowd danced along to his beats while eagerly awaiting FISHER.

At promptly 1:30 a.m. FISHER graced the stage wearing none other than his iconic combination of white oval glasses and bucket hat. It is no surprise that he brought the contagious energy he is known for. The crowd witnessed his trademark moves—jumping around up and down, swinging his arms, and even wiggling his tongue.

Fisher's set took the audience on an uplifting journey through riveting house heaters. Everyone erupted with excitement as they bobbed to his chart-toppers “World, Hold On,” “Atmosphere,”Losing It,” and the irresistibly catchy “Take it Off,” prompting some fans to indeed take it off.

Other anthems that had a notable impact were iconic house music hits like Benny Benassi’s “Satisfaction” and Mau P’s “Metro,” which led to the audience bouncing around euphorically.

One of the most memorable moments of the night unfolded early in the set when FISHER skillfully mixed Bob Marley’s “Jamming,” combining house elements with reggae vibes, resulting in an unexpected, but pleasant surprise.

The visuals surrounding FISHER's performance were simple, yet highly effective. Abstract lines and shapes coupled with occasional trippy projections of FISHER himself adorned the screen behind him, creating a mesmerizing visual backdrop.

Pyro and non-visual effects added another layer to the show, as bursts of CO2 were strategically released into the crowd during beat drops.

However, it was the colorful streamers cascading from the ceiling that truly transformed the atmosphere, filling the space with vibrant hues. The interplay of these elements contributed to an unforgettable sensory experience that matched the energy of FISHER's performance.

Overall, the show was a sold-out sensation that lived up to both Radius and FISHER’s reputations. The combination of FISHER’s infectious energy, skillful mixes, and captivating visuals made it a night to remember as Chicago bid farewell to 2023.
