Justin Caruso Changes Lives With "Love Somebody" in an iEDM Exclusive

| May 29, 2017

There is no stopping Justin Caruso. The college student is on a whole different level when it comes to the EDM game.  It is no surprise why the incredibly popular 3LAU is backing Caruso and his unlimited potential to dominate the industry.

With the recent release of "Love Somebody," Caruso captures the spirit of the upcoming summer by blending the sounds of pop and EDM together.  What makes the track even cooler is that every time the song is streamed or downloaded, all proceeds go to the ACLU.

The ACLU's mission is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States."  How can you not love what Caruso and 3LAU's charity label BLUME are doing?

In an exclusive interview with iEDM, Caruso opened up about how he balances his hectic workload at school and creating his sick beats.

"I'm in the music school at USC and all of the professors there are so accommodating. They understand that I have to take the time to tour and work on my music. That has really helped me," Caruso stated.

He continued, "I do as much homework as I can during the day so when the night comes, I can work on my music. I love to work into the later hours of the evening when everyone is asleep. That way it's just me and the music without any distractions."

When asked when he finds the time to sleep, Caruso laughed, "I don't find that I sleep too much, but my body is being trained to not worry about it."

The DJ has one year left before graduating but that doesn't stop him from using his free time to continue changing the world.

"It's crazy. With the summertime, I can dive in and work on as much music as possible before going back in the fall," he grinned.

The hardworking college junior told iEDM that he has a couple of upcoming appearances that will help make his summer a memorable one.

"We're lining up a few more shows right now.  On July 1st, I'm going to be playing at Create nightclub with 3LAU. Then I'm doing Summerfest in Milwaukee with The Chainsmokers and a bunch of other artists which I'm really looking forward to. For the rest of the summer, I'm going to focus on producing and getting a lot of music done.  After that, I'm going to be doing a bunch of shows in the fall."

The hustle is clearly real with Caruso. Another respected hustler in the EDM game is 3LAU. Caruso went into detail about how he became friends with 3LAU and why BLUME is so important to the industry.

"I met 3LAU in my senior year of high school at one of his shows. We had a mutual friend so he took me backstage. We swapped numbers and I was really just getting started with my music. I sent him as much of my music as possible," the producer told iEDM.

Caruso's determination paid off.

"Whenever he was in LA we would grab lunch," he said. "We became best friends and almost like brothers. The way he has mentored me and put his hand out to help me has been incredible. It has been a huge factor in my career and where I am at now. The way he gives back is incredible."

Caruso nodded, "BLUME really is the only record label that I know of that gives most of its proceeds to charity which is one of the coolest things I have ever heard."

Caruso then told the fun story of how "Love Somebody" came to be.

"I originally started off writing this song to a different vocal. I wasn't really sure where I was going with it. I wanted to start off with that guitar and take it from there," Caruso told iEDM.

He then smiled, "Then I sent it over to Chris Lee. In the span of 24 hours, he sent back an incredible hook line and an awesome melody that connected with me right away.  Once we did that, Chris and I got on FaceTime together for about 4 hours and during that time, we wrote the song together."

He explained, "Once I had the vocal, we jumped in and I finished up the instrumental. I was just so happy with how it turned out. It's a happy, summer song and it's the perfect time to put it out. I wanted to do something out of joy that hopefully other people will agree with."

The happiness that Caruso brings EDM fans cannot be denied. Continuing to build momentum, the producer is a man on a mission to see his dream come true.

"My biggest goal is to obviously become of the biggest artists in the world. I want to branch out a little bit too. I want to tour as much as possible. I really love being on the road--it's one of my favorite things to do," Caruso told iEDM.

He paused before continuing, "Eventually, I want to have my own label and do what 3LAU and other artists have done for me. I want to take some kids under my wing who are talented and I can work with. I want to learn from them and they can learn from me.  I want to build my own little army."

Caruso left with an inspiring message that will motivate anybody involved on the EDM scene. "Being able to make music and give back is something that I love doing. It is an important thing for me to do," the ambitious producer said.
