Why Matrix Nightclub in Berlin Should Be On The Club List For European Travelers

For those making their way to Europe and are in search of a nightclub that will give you a full European club experience, I recommend Matrix Nightclub in Berlin, Germany. 

In search of an authentic Euro-club experience myself, my friends and I  decided that Matrix Nightclub was the place to check out after a few recommendations from friends.

We found out the party doesn't stop until 6 or 7am, so we decided to be casually late and arrive at 1am. As we walked in the door and turned the corner, we have entered our first stage. This stage was playing a nice blend of American pop music and a techno rave vibe. 

The place was packed. People traveling from all over the world like to make Matrix Nightclub their party spot for the large variety of music, and the friendly atmosphere. 

The head of marketing and booking agent for Matrix, Marcus Fiedler, told me they welcome visitors from all around the world. 

"We have created a space we can all feel comfortable - regardless of sex, sexuality origin, skin colour or beauty standards," Fiedler said. 

Unfortunately, we were only there on a Thursday night. It was still wild, but Saturdays are known to be the best to attend Matrix. 

Fiedler described to me what their Saturday night events are like and how he goes about booking the talent.

"A sweet selection of DJs from different generations of Berlin clubbing presents in different areas of its own current sound range," Fiedler explained. "A DJ crew brings their encyclopedic knowledge of ultimate and rare disco gems into these dance marathon of mischief and mayhem.

Fielder told me about the growth of Matrix and how they got to where they are today. The club first opened in 1994 in an old electricity plant, Berlin Mitte. Matrix moved to its current location in Warschauer Platz under the 100 year old underground arcs in Friedrichshain Kreuzberg when the electric plant was needed for use again.

After about 30 minutes of dancing with some other tourists, we decided to go check out the other rooms. One room was hip hop; one room played some FILTHY trap beats. As a fan of a diverse range of EDM music, I was impressed with the options I had to choose from room to room. 

"DJs sets have to include the current sounds in the top 40 league, but it isn´t alway about trendy beats and deephouse bass lines," Fiedler said. "Their style must have a clubbing attitude and not just a disco-style. It should be really entertaining and should nothing have to to with a radio playlist. We always keep in mind that we want to hear what a DJ makes of a hit. Just so it is not a radio-sound the guests experience, but still so close to the current sound the crowd celebrates and does not have to ask what is played here."
