[ALBUM REVIEW] Eliminate Delivers An Experimental Sonic Odyssey With Debut LP, 'Get Off The Internet'
In a monumental achievement for his career, Los Angeles-based artist Eliminate has unveiled his highly-anticipated debut album, Get Off The Internet. This LP emerges as a unique sonic entity, blending diverse genres from dubstep to hyperpop, hardstyle to pop, and challenging the conventions of contemporary electronic music.
Eliminate's motivation behind the album is encapsulated in his own words: “My SoundCloud location has said ‘internet’ since the early 2010s; I finally decided to log off and make an album.”
The journey begins with the mesmerizing “thinkaboutit,” where chilling vocal echoes seamlessly transform into choppy dubstep and bass house segments.
The album then introduces the melodic and feel-good single, “Dawn,” a collaboration with Flux Pavilion featuring vocals from meesh. Eliminate's YouTube channel offers an insightful production breakdown of this collaboration.
“EGOTRIP” follows, amplifying the energy with an electrifying buildup and trap-heavy sequences, leading to the collaboration with Frost Children, “SMSOU,” characterized by sexy vocals and hard-hitting house components.
The title track, “Get Off The Internet,” co-produced with fussy, injects Skrillex-esque flair into the album, creating an infectious anthem with memorable lines like “Hey stupid idiot, get off of the internet.”
Eliminate masterfully balances drum & bass and color bass in “heart.EXE,” while “comecloser” unleashes a barrage of bass house reminiscent of JOYRYDE, adding dynamic layers to the album's sonic tapestry.
Entering the second half, “MOREPWR” showcases a revving car engine, paving the way for experimentation that leaves listeners speechless. “f_ck you” takes a raw and emotional turn, featuring ethereal vocals by Eliminate himself, building to a powerful outburst before a final angelic reprise.
The album's pinnacle arrives with “Playing With Fire,” a gripping composition with dreamy lyrics, followed by the punk rock-infused “Poison Oak” featuring I Set My Friends On Fire. The transition to “Waste My Time” introduces layered dubstep and color bass, with a soothing piano progression leading into the second drop.
Eliminate concludes the LP with “happyending,” a cinematic masterpiece that intertwines diverse soundscapes, creating the perfect finale to Get Off The Internet, complete with a mouse-click in the final second.
Beyond being a musical spectacle, Get Off The Internet serves as an inspirational beacon, urging listeners and artists alike to embrace experimentation and challenge boundaries.
Eliminate is set to perform selections from this auditory marvel at Ganja White Night’s annual Wobble Rocks in May, along with other touring endeavors throughout 2024.
