Claude VonStroke (Dirtybird) Open to Close at Walter Where? House Review
Claude VonStroke's (Dirtybird) open to close five-hour set at Walter Where? House on May 13, 2022, making one of this venue's sold-out shows, was an opulent night of busting moves inside art cars. Transforming from a 1940's paper factory and into a refuge for underground sounds, visual, and performance art makes Walter Where? House one of Phoenix, Arizona's largest art galleries.
This sold-out open to close five-hour set featuring Claude VonStroke without accompanying opening performances bestowed exploration of his expertise in Dirtybird house manipulating the mood and movement of the room. With no official stage or platform for the DJ booth, Claude VonStroke shared the dance floor with attendees and candles outlining his mixing board. Gleaming behind him was Kalliope, an art car embellished with multi-colored lasers, LEDs, and 70,000 watts of high fidelity audio welcoming everyone to aboard the mobile dance party.
The dance floor remained packed with people in every nook; bodies grinding on tables, platforms, and glittering art cars. Every art car was brimming with ravers that couldn't stop their movement to Claude VonStroke's dynamic, party-starting sound. Many grooved next to Claude and the decks from open to close, unable to peel their eyes from his ability to create fireworks of sonically blooming energy in the warehouse.
For those who have never experienced an open to close set until that night, this was a night of music to remember as experiencing a DJ's set longer than an hour revealed more of their elaborate sound. Arizona partied until the last sound emitted from his overcomplicated mixing board that only he seemed to graciously maneuver. Lovers of this eclectic warehouse can't wait for Walter Where? House's next event presenting Mark Farina & The Sponges. Tickets are available now (21+).
