iEDM's Dance Music Year In Review 2017
You read our articles (hopefully) and now it's time for you to meet the team. As we wrap up 2017, we wanted to share our favorite moments, shows and artists of 2017 with you. Get to know the iEDM Team in this 2017 recap!
1. Favorite Show Or Festival Experience of 2017
Cris: My favorite festival of 2017 would have to be Middlelands!
Kylie: I started my 2017 festivals off right, with Holy Ship 9.0. Grooving to Griz in the middle of the ocean was one of my favorite experiences of the year. The vibes were great and everyone had the time of their lives.
Lindsey: My favorite show this year was actually not a festival, but Gareth Emery's LaserFace show in New York. It completely melted my mind, easily one of the most magical shows that I've ever been to!
Kyle: E-Zoo this year was incredible. Alexandra Greenberg at MSO always knows how to show party people a great time!
Lacy: My favorite festival of 2017 was definitely Electric Forest because getting lost in the Forest is a truly magical experience. The art is so awe-inspring. My favorite sets of the weekend were discovering Rezz and taking my boyfriend (who is more a jam band guy) to our first-ever Bassnectar set together.

2. Dream DJ Collaboration
Cris: In the future (preferably 2018) I would love to see a collaboration between Kaskade and Seven Lions.
Kylie: Bassnectar & Alison Wonderland
Lindsey: Porter Robinson and Illenium. Can you even imagine?!
Kyle: 3LAU teaming up with Dada Life would be epic beyond words. How can we make this happen?
Lacy: My dream collab would have to be Griz and Bassnectar. Griz's sexy sax with Bassnectar's creative production process would be magical and different.
3. Dream B2B set
Cris: The dream b2b set that I would die to see in 2018 or asap would be Above and Beyond b2b with Kaskade.
Zach: Yheti b2b DMVU
Kylie: Bassnectar & Flume
Lindsey: Seven Lions and Illenium. I would cry all night long.
Kyle: Yellow Claw followed by Galantis! I don’t think I would be able to stand after that. True story.
Lacy: This will never happen, but I would love to see Bassnectar and Tipper go b2b.
4. Favorite track of the year
Cris: This is a hard one, but my favorite track of the year would have to go to "Nobody Like You" - Kaskade.
Kylie: "Something Just Like This" - The Chainsmokers and Coldplay
Lindsey: Sound of Walking Away - Illenium
Kyle: “Matches” - Cash Cash and Rozes. How can you not love this song? The vocals from the always amazing Rozes will send chills down your spine. Check it out!
Lacy: "Operator" - Chris Lake
5. Most WTF moment of the year
Cris: Not a WTF moment, but a good memory I have from Dancefestopia on the third day has to be seeing a couple of parents with their three year old daughter at the festival. I had to go and talk to them and I even exchanged kandi with their daughter!
Kylie: Deadmau5 spamming the mic at Imagine Music Festival.
Lindsey: At Electric Zoo this girl walked up to me, pointed at the kandi I was wearing and said "I want one. Give me that." I tried to explain how trading kandi and PLUR worked but she ignored me and demanded a single from me. I ended up giving her one just so she'd leave me alone, I'm a PLUR-fairy so that was definitely a WTF moment for me.
Kyle: DJ Khaled getting booed off the stage at EDC is something I’ll never unsee. That was savage AF.
Lacy: Usher with the Roots at Okeechobee because it took me back to my middle school days. "Let It Burn.."
6. Who got you into EDM?
Cris: My coworker back in 2013 was the one who got me into EDM, she would always play EDM at our parties and I would always make her change it. Somehow she convinced me to go to EDC in Las Vegas and its safe to say that EDC changed my perspective and I've been hooked since then. I remember I knew ONLY ONE DJ out of that 300+ artist lineup: Bingo Players.
Kylie: My parents would come home from clubs with EDM CD’s during a lot of my childhood. Most of it was techno and Florida Brakes. They even had streamers as flow toys.
Lindsey: Swedish House Mafia got me into the genre, but I fell in love with Gareth Emery's Drive album and that's what got me into raving.
Kyle: Besides Paul van Dyk, I played Dance Dance Revolution a lot at the arcades as a kid. My fascination of electronic music came from that game, if you can believe it!
Lacy: The band Papadosio headlining a festival near my town turned me on to live electronic music. Then I studied abroad in Argentina where electronic music is most popular. I started getting into Girl Talk, Pretty Lights, and Kaskade. It was all over from there.
7. What's your genre of choice? (if you have one)
Cris: This is a tough one, but trance, deep house and techno are my genres.
Kylie: I love house and trap
Lindsey: I love every genre, I started off as a trance child and I've really gotten into dubstep and bass. Melodic bass is my sweet spot at the moment.
Kyle: I’m a lover, not a hater. If a song is hot, I will support it, no matter the genre.
Lacy: Everything bass. I am also a huge fan of live electronic bands. I love genre-fusion music. I also LOVE house music as well. It's hard to pick just one genre!
8. Ravers being ravers (weirdest thing you saw at a festival)
Kylie: A 300 pound, naked man was being vulgar, chasing people at Shaky Beats 2015. He wound up chasing me and my friend had to save me. It took security a while to get that under control and was not only one of the weirdest things I saw. It was one of the scariest.
Lindsey: One of my favorites was watching ravers at Moonrise, when we got evacuated because of a thunderstorm, everyone got moved into the race stands. People in the stands started running races on the track while we waited to be let back in and everyone was cheering them on, I thought that was hilarious. The next day, people were diving (I kid you not) into piles of mud (that had horse crap in them) and they were having the time of their lives.
Kyle: I remember seeing a guy turned upside down in a garbage can a few years ago at a festival. Only at raves, I tell ya.
Lacy: This year at Arise Festival in Colorado, there was a full grown marijuana plant in a cart at the main stage. It sat there all weekend and I am not sure who it belonged to... Only in Colorado!
