10 Must See Artists At Backwoods Festival 2018
Backwoods Festival is never a disappointment when talking artists and this year is no different. With a multi genre line-up, you catch a jam band feel, grooving to a funky bass line, or head banging with the rest of the electronic lushes there's more than enough options for every flavor.
Taking place in Oklahoma in previous years Backwoods Festival took 2017 off and is coming back in 2018 stronger than ever.
Leaving Lincoln County, OK they’ve found a new home in Ozark, AR and are now dubbed Backwoods at Mulberry Mountain 2018. The event will take place on the beautiful land that once held Wakarusa Music Festival.
With vast lands to hold the 7 plus stages offered in years past this is going be one you don't want to miss.
We wanted to bring you a highlight and a heads up to the top 10 artists that are on the must-see list for 2018.
1. The Floozies
One of my top picks for this festival is absolutely going to be the Floozies. Dubbed the “undisputed kings of electro funk” these guys bring all the funk and mix it with a little bit of electronic groove. Appearing at Somerset, Camp Bisco, Bumbershoot, Summer Camp, Electric Forest, and appearing with Griz at Red Rocks they jump on stage with no set list and barely speaking create a danceable and fun sound to get real funky to. Using samples from popular hits from the 90’s and 2000’s with a super funky electric feel combined with stage presence this is a do not miss on my list for sure.
2. Sunsquabi
Picture three guys each bringing their own individual presence and performance styles to a stage illuminated by lights and lasers. Sunsquabi is a Boulder, CO based group creating community oriented live electronic sounds infused with rock and funky base lines. I am excited to see these guys bring their individuality to Mulberry Mountain this year and you should be as well.
3. Papadosio
Papadosio is a name that once heard is hard to forget. This 5 man band has an original earthy vibetronica sound that moves you to the depths of your soul. Typically classified as a jam band these guys have a variety of style across multiple genres that are all equally original to them. As human beings go they are pretty amazing as well believing in evolution of humanity through spreading love for one another and the earth this is a set that is guaranteed to be aa necessity.
4. Yheti
This artist is often described as surrealistic producing high energy sounds with deep rhythms over a multi genre platform. Psychedelic bass creations with dubstep and hip hop under tones he is recognized in acid trap, jungle, juke and future bass categories and I'm absolutely not going to miss seeing him for the first time.
5. Emancipator
Having a history in violin, electric guitar, drums, and bass guitar this American producer and DJ self-released his debut album while he was still in college and eventually went on to found his own record label his sound is one of chill and melodic ambient electronica mixed with trip hop. I would be excited to see what this artist influenced by African thumb pianos and sounds beyond western auditory consumption brings to a nice performance.
6. Muzzy Bearr
As Griz's guitar playing right hand man, you could only expect him to bring the noise at this festival as well. With a style similar to Griz bringing a funky and eclectic feel to any performance he creates genre bending hard head banging sounds as well as groovy baselines to jam to.
7. Jade Cicada
Calming and melodic with a steady base this artist creates am almost oriental feel. Creating what sounds like something out of a video game at times but with an electronic twist I think there is something to be seen live from this performer.
8. Modern Measure
Staying true to art and music modern measure uses live organic instrumentation creating sounds that see inspired by funk, electronica, hip hop, rap, future bass, and rock. They have the motto to keep the party up at all times with their original productions as well as remixes from well known artistic inspirations of the group. Playing With groups like ZOOGMA, Disco Biscuits, Manic Focus, Sts9, Big Gigantic, the Floozies, The New Deal, and Sunsquabi you're going to want to catch these two gentleman throwing down some sick beats.
9. Snails
Obviously anyone who knows electronic music knows snails. Quoted as being “gutteral bass jungles crushing 808 synths that oscillate past the point of absurdity” and qualifying as something in the genre of vomit step Snails made his first US concert performance in 2014 and only grew from there collaborating with artists Flux Pavilion, Skrillex , and several others. Performing at EDC Vegas, Ultra, and Electric Forest 2015 he is making a name for himself amongst the head bangers of the electronic dance community.
10. Figure
Making an appearance this year with his hard hitting electronic sounds with vibrating drum and bass. Best known for his Monster series which includes tracks like the werewolf, Beetlejuice, Frankenstein, and the mummy to name a few. He takes electronic music to a new level smashing some of your favorite horror movie samples over drum step tracks bringing some of the most gnarly sounds to get down to. Having played shows like EDC, Snowglobe, Starscape Creamfields, tomorrow world, and Belgium's Dour you definitely want to have the opportunity to say you've seen this dude get wild at least once.
We are super excited for Backwoods 2018. See you all on the mountain!
