Costa Rica's flagship dance music event, BPM Festival, is right around the corner! From January 24-28, top talent across house, techno, and more will arrive at the coast of Tamarindo for a series of mesmerizing sets. 

With so many incredible artists on this year's lineup, we decided to narrow down the 10 must-see performances throughout this unparalleled tropical experience.

10) Malóne

MalóneWhile HUGEL has cemented himself as the current king of Latin house, Malóne is another talented DJ-producer hybrid that is quickly climbing up the charts. With his uncle being a DJ in Miami throughout the early 80s, Malóne started cultivating his signature sound at the age of 10.

He is leading the charge when it comes to Latin house and house in general across South Florida, delivering high-energy sets at Miami Music Week, LIV, Factory Town, III Points, and more. Also, a resident DJ at the renowned Club Space, Malóne is an artist to look out for at BPM 2024. 

 

9) Joezi

JoeziFrench-Israeli TV superstar-turned-DJ Joezi is just as infectious during his sets as he is on camera. His sun-drenched, organic house catalog will have listeners dancing into the early morning, or even get to see the sunrise at BPM festival. 

If you are an Afro House-head or looking to get more exposure to the subgenre, Joezi is your guy. Get ready to bump to a barrage of drums and groovy basslines during his Costa Rica performance.

 

8) Hernán Cattaneo

Hernán CattaneoIn discussion for the top artist featured on BPM 2024's lineup, Hernán Cattaneo is a wizard behind the decks. His performances are full of passion and hypnotic beats, but Cattaneo is much more than a DJ.

As a veteran producer, he has more than 10 albums, 30 singles, and 50 remixes under his belt. From residencies in Buenos Aires' legendary Clubland to Cream and Pacha in Ibiza, this multi-faceted artist is must-see at any festival.

 

7) Sidney Charles

Sidney CharlesOver the course of his lengthy career thus far, Sidney Charles has cultivated an entrancing blend of deep, minimal, groovy, and melodic vibes. The result is an inescapable sonic environment for dance floor enthusiasts; one that is heavily influenced by 90s house.

Pioneering The Sidney Sound has led to classic anthems like “House Lessons” and “Warehouse Romance”. With label appearances on Truesoul, Hot Creations, Saved, and others, catch Sidney tearing it up on the beautiful beaches of Costa Rica at BPM.

6) Rony Seikaly

Rony SeikalyRony Seikaly is a man of many talents. Heading a very successful career in the NBA was just the beginning for this 6'11” music-loving juggernaut. Since 2010, the Lebanese-American DJ has dropped heaters on Suara, Saved, and his own imprint Strida Records.

When it comes to mixing, he has performed alongside Marco Carola, Damian Lazarus, and Guy Gerber, to name a few. Rony has been on a roll, releasing a stream of funky hits and landing well-known festival gigs throughout 2023. Witness him to continue to build momentum in 2024.

 

5) Sainte Vie

Sainte VieFrom the innovative mind of Pablo Piña Hernandez, Sainte Vie is a Mexican electronic music producer, sound engineer, and founder of record label and collective Akumandra. He boasts a one-of-a-kind sound that can only be fully appreciated when experienced live.

 

4) HUGEL

HUGELAs previously mentioned, HUGEL wears the crown when it comes to the kingdom of Latin house. Having coined the now-popular catchphrase, “Do it for the Latinas,” he sure knows how to make them dance.

Just when you think there is no way that HUGEL can keep up his constant influx of original house heaters, he drops another one. These tracks are often rooted in Latin culture, with alluring and sexy Spanish vocals, and crisp percussion. 

His recent chart-topper “Stay High” with Diplo and Julia Church is proof of this.

 

3) Shermanology

Shermanology

The dynamic brother-sister duo of Andy and Dorothy Sherman bring a vibrant blend of Caribbean-Dutch roots and classic house through Shermanology. Their signature fusion of 90s nostalgia, funk, and groovy basslines infect anyone in listening range.

With over 250 million Spotify streams, they have rocked major festivals like Kappa Futur, Elements, Dirtybird CampINN and EDC, and earned acclaim from BBC Radio One.

Notable releases on labels like Defected and collaborations with FISHER showcase their rising influence.

Their latest hit, a house rendition of Boyz II Men's “Motownphilly,” reflects their global success and lands them in the top three must-see sets at the upcoming BPM Festival.

 

 

2) Øostil

If you are not yet a fan of melodic techno, then there's a solid chance that Øostil has flown under your radar. This skilled visionary embodies an eclectic blend of cinematic soundscapes, entrancing buildups, and high-energy drops in every release.

Aiming to completely remove the audience's attention and understanding of time and distance through his tracks, Øostil is melodic techno in its purest form.

He is hot off a number of hypnotic anthems in 2023, such as his remix of Kasablanca's “Am I Dreaming?” and collaboration “The Sky Above.”

 

1) Franky Rizardo

Franky Rizardo

Renowned Dutch music export Franky Rizardo blurs techno and house boundaries in a way that is unprecedented and native to only his project. His releases span labels like Rejected, Saved, Strictly Rhythm, and 8Bit. A fixture in ANTS and elrow, he has clearly graced iconic venues worldwide.

Co-founding FLOW in 2015, Franky and Jasper Fioole create immersive events globally, expanding into the USA, Australia, and Asia. 2020 marked the relaunch of his label LTF Records, reflecting Franky's distinctive sound rooted in deep philosophy.

As he explores new territories, Franky solidifies his identity as a multi-faceted performer and artist. Get ready to hear hits like “What We Got,” “Love Seeking,” and a vibey remix of BLOND:ISH's collaboration with Madonna on “Sorry” (all released this past year) during his set at BPM Festival 2024.
