[EVENT REVIEW] Nicky Romero Lights Up Tao Chicago With Mesmerizing Beats

Nicky Romero, Tao Chicago

On the night of Friday, August 18, renowned Dutch electronic music producer and DJ, Nicky Romero, took the stage at Tao Chicago for a mesmerizing performance that left the crowd craving more. The anticipation leading up to his performance was palpable as fans eagerly awaited the start of his set.

In 2010, Romero gained recognition with his track “My Friend,” released on the Dutch label Spinnin’ Records. This marked the beginning of his ascent in the EDM scene. However, it was his collaboration with the late Avicii on the hit song “I Could Be the One” in 2012 that propelled him into international recognition. The track not only topped charts, but also showcased his ability to create infectious melodies and innovative beats.

Setting the stage for the night was opener DJ Diox who warmed up the crowd with a skillful mix of tracks that set the mood for what was to come. Romero took the stage at 1 AM with an explosive energy that instantly captivated the audience. He kicked off his set with none other than Mau P’s “Drugs from Amsterdam,” followed by another one of Mau P’s newest hits, “Your Mind is Dirty.”

Throughout the night, Romero skillfully remixed a slew of popular songs, breathing new life into tracks like Coldplay’s “Sky Full of Stars,” and OneRepublic’s “If I Lose Myself.” The remix of Sean Paul’s timeless hit “Temperature” sent shockwaves of energy rippling through the crowd, creating an atmosphere of pure exhilaration.

Romero's set bridged the gap between progressive house, electro, and big room sounds. The crowd was excited by invigorating renditions of tracks like “Titanium,” “Reload,” “Freed From Desire,” and “Gimme Gimme.” As the night progressed, he transitioned into a crowd favorite: John Summit's “Where You Are,” a song currently taking the EDM scene by storm.

Tao proved to be the perfect venue for this extraordinary night. The marriage of dance music with a touch of elegance created an immersive experience that enhanced the sounds of Romero’s genre-bending style.

The special effects in place during the set added an entirely new layer to the already exhilarating experience. The fog that was blown into the crowd heightened the intensity of each beat drop, while streamers shot into the sky created moments of pure awe. The colorful and dynamic graphics both in front of and behind the DJ stand transformed the stage into a kaleidoscope of visual splendor.

Nicky Romero, Tao ChicagoRomero's style, characterized by his seamless transitions and well-crafted build-ups, truly sets him apart from other DJs. The audience was gifted with dazzling intros that culminated in explosive beat drops, creating an electric atmosphere that kept the dance floor alive and pulsating. Notably, the extended euphoric buildup leading into “Love Tonight” was a masterstroke that left the crowd in a euphoric state.

From start to finish, the audience was on their feet, hands in the air, and moving to the rhythm of Romero's beats. The dance floor seemed to move as one, responding to Romero's every move with synchronized enthusiasm.

Romero's performance at Tao was nothing short of spectacular. Blending his unique musical style with innovative remixes, he took the audience on a blissful journey. With a venue that perfectly complemented the music, dazzling special effects, and a crowd that never stopped moving, it was a night for the books.
