[LISTEN] LennyTunes Expands His Organic House World With 'Jaffa Cakes' EP

Organic house continues evolving beyond purely digital production workflows, and LennyTunes’ new EP 'Jaffa Cakes' pushes further into that movement through a deeply live-oriented approach rooted in analog performance, Mediterranean instrumentation, and rhythmic precision.

Recorded almost entirely live in the ancient port city of Jaffa, the six-track project leans heavily into human feel and physical musicianship while maintaining enough groove and low-end weight to translate effectively within contemporary club environments.

Built around an expansive palette of instruments including Bedouin ney, Turkish and Arabic qanun, kalimba, balafon, North African percussion, Prophet and Minimoog synths, and a vintage 1960 Fender guitar processed through analog effects, “Jaffa Cakes” feels intentionally tactile from start to finish.

Rather than relying on overly polished sequencing or maximalist arrangement, the EP thrives through movement, texture, and layering.

The title track immediately establishes the project’s sonic identity through hypnotic percussion, warm synth work, and fluid melodic phrasing.

Elsewhere, “Spring Tank” introduces more forward-driving momentum through Minimoog leads and live violin improvisation from Bashir al Asadi, while “Fata Organa” drifts into more psychedelic territory through looping qanun passages and vintage synthesis.

At the center of the record sits “Tamtam,” arguably the project’s most rhythmically intense moment. Moroccan and West African drum patterns collide with organic instrumentation and physical modeling synthesis, creating a track that feels equally suited for sunrise sets and deeper late-night dancefloors.

“Naima” slows the pacing slightly with cinematic string arrangements and Bedouin ney flute passages before “Desert Dweller” closes the EP with dusty psychedelic textures and heavily processed guitar work.

More than anything, 'Jaffa Cakes' succeeds because of its restraint and authenticity. Instead of forcing crossover appeal, LennyTunes fully commits to an immersive sonic identity shaped by Middle Eastern maqam scales, analog studio craft, and live musicianship.
