Glow Rules Split by Festival

Light up gear is where festivals disagree hardest. EDC Las Vegas permits glowsticks, glowing costumes and jewelry, LED poi, orbitals and LED hula hoops. Totems are allowed there up to 10 feet, made from lightweight material.

Ultra Music Festival takes the opposite line, banning glow sticks, totems and loose glitter outright. Illuminated jewelry and costumes do stay acceptable at Ultra. UV reactive prints and glowing wearables therefore travel better than props.

Check your own event's list before you spend. A banned item is money left in a bin at the gate.

Rave Bags: What Actually Gets Through the Gate

Bag rules are the most common reason people lose gear at entry. Drawstring festival bags hold 58 one size products at $24.95 to $29.95, down from $39.95. Rave backpacks hold 15 products, all one size, all at $89.95, reduced from $99.95.

Buying either one blind is a gamble. Backpacks are banned at Ultra Music Festival, which admits only clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags up to 13 by 17 inches. An $89.95 backpack never reaches that stage.

Ultra vs EDC Bag Size Limits

Two of the biggest US events publish very different numbers:

Ultra Music Festival: clear bags up to 13 by 17 inches, hand sized clutches and one gallon zip top bags. Fanny packs are allowed and backpacks are banned. Hydration packs pass only when they are not backpacks, and must be empty on entry

A real gap to plan around: iEDM lists a fanny pack category but currently stocks none, and no hydration packs at all. That holds across every product URL in iEDM's sitemaps. Pick those up from another retailer, and keep iEDM drawstring bags for smaller loads.

Hearing Protection: The Essential iEDM Does Not Sell

Earplugs belong at the top of any rave essentials list, and no iEDM collection carries them. According to the NIDCD, long or repeated exposure at or above 85 dBA can cause hearing loss. Concerts sit in the 94 to 110 dBA band, well past that threshold.

OSHA sets a permissible exposure limit of 90 dBA across an eight hour workday. It also notes that noise induced hearing loss cannot be corrected through surgery or medicine. A weekend of main stage sets adds up fast.

Better news from the NIDCD: noise induced hearing loss is the only kind that is completely preventable. Earplugs are the protection it recommends. Ultra explicitly lists earplugs as an acceptable item, so nothing stops you carrying a pair.

Sun, Heat and Weather Protection

Daytime sets punish anyone who skips sun cover. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher, water resistant. Apply it about 15 minutes before you go outside, using roughly 1 ounce, about a shot glass.

No sunscreen is waterproof, per the FDA. Water resistant labels only certify 40 or 80 minutes of swimming or sweating. Reapplication is needed at least every two hours regardless.

Buy lotion, not spray. Aerosol cans are prohibited at EDC Las Vegas. Ultra accepts sunscreen only when it is non aerosol and sealed on entry.

Only broad spectrum products at SPF 15 or higher may claim they reduce skin cancer and early skin aging risk. Add SPF 30 lip balm, which the AAD recommends separately.

Hats, Sunglasses and Goggles

Shade beats reapplication. Rave hats, caps and snapbacks come in a single size, all 192 of them. Ultra lists sunglasses and hats among its acceptable items.

For dust and glare together, rave goggles sit between $18.95 and $34.95 under the Umbrella Lab name. Kaleidoscope and diffraction lenses double as a visual toy after dark.

Hydration Habits That Beat the Heat

OSHA is blunt about heat. Workers should not rely on feeling thirsty to prompt them to drink, it says. Apply that at a festival and sip on a schedule instead.

Carry a refillable bottle. EDC requires reusable bottles and hydration packs to be empty at the gate.

Bandanas and Face Coverings

Dust, sun and sweat all argue for a face covering. Rave bandanas form the largest single accessory category on the site at 544 products. Prices start at $8.95, with most designs at $11.95.

That listing also promises a metal nose piece and two replacements, with each filter lasting one to four days. Those are vendor claims from iEDM, not independently tested figures.

Masks come with one catch. Ultra prohibits face masks except medical masks for safety purposes, and may ask you to remove one for ID checks. Buy a bandana mask for dust and style, not as a guaranteed Ultra entry item.

Comfort, Hygiene and Camping Extras

Multi day events need a ground layer and a clean up plan. Festival camping lists blanket sizes from 50 by 60 up to 68 by 80, across 101 products. Beach throws sit at $39.95, down from $49.95, and iEDM specifies cold machine wash only.
