[EVENT REVIEW] ZHU Ignites Radius Chicago with Mesmerizing Vocals and Beats

On Friday the 13th of October, under the cold winds of Chicago, Radius transformed into a beacon of warmth and rhythm, as electronic music producer and singer ZHU ignited the night with electrifying beats and mesmerizing melodies.

ZHU, known for his enigmatic persona, first gained recognition in 2014 for his breakthrough single “Faded,” which topped charts in multiple countries. ZHU is known for his unique blend of deep house, techno, and elements of pop, creating a distinctive and enigmatic sound.

One notable aspect of ZHU's career is his penchant for anonymity and maintaining a low public profile. He rarely shows his face in public and prefers to let his music speak for itself, which has added an air of mystique to his persona.

Kicking off the night was electronic music producer and DJ, Noizu. He instantly ignited the crowd with his energy and infectious beats. His hit track, “Summer 91 (Looking Back),” had the crowd moving and grooving, setting the tone for a night of non-stop excitement.

At midnight, ZHU made a grand entrance with “Take My Soul.” Dressed in a striking red hooded jacket and illuminated by flashing red lights, he immediately captured the crowd’s attention.

ZHU's showmanship was nothing short of spectacular. He seamlessly transitioned between singing, moving to the beat, and even playing the piano, keeping the audience engaged from start to finish.

What made his performance truly unique was his innovative use of the stage and booth. Positioned high above, he invited a live band to perform beneath him for select songs, even making the booth transparent at times, so fans could witness the synergy between artist and band. With guitar, drums, and saxophone players, his music took on new dimensions.

Songs like “In the Morning” and “Risky Business” were brought to life with stunning visuals, and the audience was entranced as ZHU played the piano during “Palm of My Hand.”

His soothing, mesmerizing voice carried everyone away. He also showcased his remix of CamelPhat and Elderbrook's “Cola,” adding his signature touch, which led to the whole crowd singing along.

Throughout his performance, he played snippets of fan-favorites like “Faded” and “Cocaine Model,” but ultimately saved these two hits for a breathtaking finale.

ZHU's performance was not just auditory, it was a feast for the eyes as well. The stage was a sea of red, occasionally illuminated with bursts of blue, yellow, and white lights, creating a dynamic visual experience.

Beams of light occasionally extended from behind ZHU, creating a dramatic effect with his silhouette at the center. Flashing red sayings revolved around the center of the stage with messages like “you are free now” and “you can never go back,” adding an intriguing element that enhanced the overall experience.
