Mixmag Trolls Internet with Daft Punk Tour April Fools Prank

| April 02, 2017

You ever get news that makes you actually jump up, trip over your office chair and fall onto the ground? I did. And then I found out it was an April Fools Day joke. Mixmag decided to troll the Internet with an April Fools Day prank about Daft Punk announcing a 2017 tour. (Read the full depravity here).

Now my personal opinion on this joke aside (some things you just don't joke about!!!), Mixmag definitely knew where to prank EDM fans where it hurts. Daft Punk, also known affectionately as the Robots by their fans, is a French electro-house duo made up of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter.

The duo is almost as well known for their unique helmets (they started the masked DJ trend, let’s be real) as they are for their energetic sound and phenomenal stage design. Daft Punk has been making waves in the EDM world since 1993 and are well-known for their smash hits Starboy, Get Lucky, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, and Digital Love.

Daft Punk has not toured since their last album 2013's Random Access Memories and were last on stage with the Weeknd during the 2017 Grammy Awards. (If you haven't seen the performance, it was amazing).

However, a Grammy performance is a far cry from a tour and fans have been keeping their fingers crossed, waiting for the masked duo to return to the touring circuit. Rumors surfaced last year that the duo would be making a return in 2017, the 10-year anniversary of Alive 2007, their last live album. Do we see the depth of Mixmag's "joke" (feel free to substitute the word "blasphemy" here)

Suffice to say, fans were not amused.

Like REALLY not amused

April Fools sucks. I agree.

So my fellow Daft Punk fans, don't allow yourselves to be tricked (and subsequently heartbroken) by this April Fools Day prank. I'll still keep hoping for a 2017 return by Daft Punk (and Swedish House Mafia). Maybe the next announcement won't be on April 1.

If you're a fan of Daft Punk's look (and honestly, who's not?) you can channel your inner Daft Punk with our Body Zone Apparel Collection. If Daft Punk isn't touring anytime soon, the next best thing is to channel their look!
